Presentation on the Security Impact of Drones

To support the understanding and acquisition of knowledge regarding UAS/UAV/Drone technology, Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting and Jason Cansler of Under the Sun Imaging gave a presentation to the Western SC Chapter of ASIS International on March 18th, 2016.  Jason Cansler educated the group of security professionals on Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) technologies, operations, and legal implications.  Mark Schreiber addressed the impact of UAS as threat, and as a tool for security organizations.  There is a great deal of innovation in UAS/Drone system development, and mitigation technologies (i.e. drone detection/intervention), and the presentation gave insight on current and near future applications.  The team hopes to also give this presentation at the ASIS Annual Seminar in September 2016.

Mark Schreiber instructs on Security Convergence, InfoSec for ASIS APC

On March 10th, Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting was asked to be one of the faculty instructors for the ASIS International Assets Protection Course: Principles of Security (APC 1) in Indianapolis, IN.  Mark educated the students on the role of IT/Information Security, Identity Management, Data Breaches, Digital Forensics, InfoSec Policies, InfoSec Awareness & Training, IT Risks, and the importance of Security Convergence.  The program went very well, with great questions and interest from the students.  Definitely a worthwhile program.  Thank you to the program manager, Ed McDonough and to Tim McCreight for this opportunity for Mark Schreiber to share his passion for Security Convergence.  Learn more about the APC program at the ASIS website:

Safeguards Consulting Supports NACSA & IACLEA

Safeguards Consulting was proud to be a supporting vendor at the 2016 IACLEA/NACSA Regional Conference March 7-9, 2016 in Greenville, SC on the Furman University campus.  The conference was a great success with experts sharing their knowledge and skills to the group, and it was well attended by Campus Safety professionals from across the nation.  We were glad to support the event and look forward to future opportunities to support NACSA, IACLEA, and the community.

Mark Schreiber provided Facilities Security Design Training for Security Professionals in Fort Worth

From February 24th through 26th, 2016, Mark Schreiber was one of the featured instructors for ASIS International's "Facility Security Design" training workshop in Fort Worth, Texas.  As the Chairperson of the ASIS Security Architecture and Engineering Council, Mark Schreiber presented on the many efforts of supporting the security systems design for a facility's capital construction project.  Mark Schreiber covered the Design Process, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Control Room (i.e. SOC/GSOC) Design Considerations, Security Systems Integration designs, and Design Documents, Coordination & Systems Convergence.  Specific focus was put on the principles of CPTED in their design applications, the expectations & value of the multitude of Detailed Security Design Documents, the complexities of planning and designing an optimal Security Control Room (a project unto itself), addressing complex security systems integrations and physical/cyber security convergence, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and the and the ultimate importance for Security Management to focus on the fundamental goals and requirements for their facilities to achieve success.  The group was also extremely fortunate to take part in an incredible behind-the-scenes security tour of the BNSF railway facilities.  Many thanks to BNSF and the ASIS staff.  More information can be found on the ASIS International website:

CPTED for Landscape Architects - ASLA Presentation

On February 22nd, Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting had the honor of sharing the principles and applications of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) to the Upstate group of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (SC ASLA).  Applications of CPTED with natural barriers, land formation, and landscape elements and plantings were discussed.  Please learn more about SC ASLA at their website:

Safeguards Consulting Integrator Forum a Success!

On December 14th, 2015, Safeguards Consulting hosted their 2nd Annual Security Integrator forum for Integrators in the Southeast.  The event provided the opportunity for knowledge share, professional discussions, and a presentation by Howard Belfor as the keynote speaker to the group.  The event went well and the feedback provided indicated that it was great success and well worth all the attendees time.

SC IAHSS Presentation to Healthcare Security Professionals

Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting had the privilege to speak to the South Carolina IAHSS group on October 30th, 2015.  The statewide organization of professional healthcare security professionals requested Mark Schreiber to present on planning for improvements of an hospital's physical security program.  The presentation, entitled "Evaluating the Best Physical Security Improvements for Your Company”, discussed the process of properly planning for improvements within an organization using a strategic approach, internal resources, external support and aligned with the construction industry.  Mark Schreiber also shared some wisdom from his extensive experience to allow organizations to use their capital wisely and not jump into a project without having their homework done first (i.e. Risk Assessments, Functional Requirements, Program Analysis).

Innovations in Physical Security Technologies Research Shared with ASIS Chapters

Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting gave educational presentations to the ASIS Chapter 82 in High Point, NC on October 7th ASIS Chapter 97 in Greenville, SC on October 9th.  Mark Schreiber, as a recent judge for an international security conference, brought back his research on innovations in physical security technologies and developed a presentation highlighting the big trends and specific examples of the new technologies and how they will likely impact the industry.  The innovations ranged from minor improvements to stable technologies, to truly disruptive technologies that will have great impact to security operations, but will be challenging to implement.  Please feel free to contact Safeguards Consulting for more details.

Safeguards Consulting proud to support community charity event

With respectful remembrance of September 11th, Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting supported the organization and promotion of the 2015 ASIS Western SC Charity Golf Tournament on 9/11/2015.  Mark Schreiber helped plan the charity tournament in support of The Julie Valentine Center (http://www.julievalentinecenter.org/) and supported a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.  With a successful event, well-attended and supported by the security industry, charity funds were raised to support a great community charity and recognize the positive impact of the ASIS Chapter to its community.

On August 5th, Mark Schreiber of Safeguards Consulting gave a presentation for the Manufacturer's Roundtable of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce by request.  Mark Schreiber presented an overview of physical security technologies and recommendations for the strategic planning of improvements at a manufacturing plant. The presentation covered strategic approaches, the use of internal resources, external support, and preparation for construction projects.

Mark Schreiber provided a Video Surveillance presentation to the ASIS Western SC Chapter

On April 24th, 2015, Mark Schreiber provided the "Video Surveillance Technologies & Applications" presentation to the Western South Carolina Chapter of ASIS International.  Mr. Schreiber covered Video Surveillance Systems (a.k.a. Video Monitoring Systems, CCTV, etc.) at multiple levels so that the attendees could become familiar with the technologies, terminology, and the appropriate applications of security video.   Recent innovations in video technologies were also introduced.

In addition to video camera types, resolutions, communications, and storage, Mark Schreiber discussed appropriate uses of security video surveillance for businesses and their connection to security and business policies.  Lessons learned from previous design experience were shared, along with technology limitations.

Security Documents and Project Management Instruction by Mark Schreiber

Human Resources & Security Partnership Presentation for SC SHRM
